Socks and Underwear

August 17, 2007

Today I received a call from Pryor, Oklahoma. The principle of Lincoln Elementary was wondering if we still had any school supplies. She understood that we were not a part of the community but she talked to one of our members and she was just wondering if we could help.

About five minutes later I received a phone call from a counselor at Washington Elementary in Pryor. It seems that they named their schools after presidents, nice gesture if you ask me. Anyway, she wondered the same thing.

After a short discussion about their needs I told them we would bag up some socks and underwear in a variety of sizes for each of the four elementary schools in Pryor. They were very thankful. I spent some time this afternoon putting together bags of underwear and socks for the schools.

If you were looking for something to do to impact your community you may want to ask a local elementary school if they could use socks and underwear. At the very least you can ask about socks because when winter hits some kids show up to school without any.

It doesn’t cost much and it is a great way to be Jesus in your community. Kids who have little always need socks. If you really want to go the next mile offer the local elementary a fund for shoes. You would probably be amazed at the number of kids who holes in their shoes on snowy, wet days. We helped a local school with a shoe fund last year and have already supplied them with underwear and socks.

Speaking of small ways to make a big difference, grab a cooler and throw some water bottles inside and head out looking for garbage trucks. Those guys work all day in hot conditions picking up our junk. Not a glamorous job. Trust me you will make their day when you come with a bottle of cold water and a thanks, unless your trash haulers are different than the ones around here that is.

    Darin,
God bless you brother for making a differnce in the Kingdom of God. Last winter, one thing I noticed was the number of children without jackets. So, this year I am going to see about giving out jackets to those children.

Thanks man. To be honest I have been frustrated recently with the consumer mentality that I run into constantly.

We provide winter coats for a school for diasbled children here in town. This has lead to further involvement.

I hope others will see the value in this kind of service too. Thanks for highlighting in your post.

Danny, that is great. I think the more ideas we get going the more great things can be done.

Thanks for sharing the efforts. May God be glorified.
