Sonic Ice
Is it just me? Am I the only one who loves Sonic ice? I don’t know how they do it but the stuff is delicious. Throw in a Happy Hour from 2 to 4 with half priced drinks and I am hooked.
We had a bag of Sonic ice in the freezer left over and I found myself drinking a lot more Pepsi, aka the Sweet Elixir, because of it. Last night I found myself pouring out the last contents of the bag trying to get every last shard out of the corners of the bag.
I love Sonic ice. I don’t know what is so great about it, I suppose the fact that it is crunchy but not too crunchy. You know what I mean right? Your teeth have to work but not that hard to devour it.
I think the size has something to do with it also. Those little ice pellets are just right, you can enjoy one or four. The ice at McDonald’s is big and clunky and hard but not at Sonic.
Anyone else out there a Sonic ice lover? Regale me with your Sonic ice stories. Who is planning a trip to Sonic from 2 to 4 this afternoon? Just know I’ll be drinking a Route 44 cherry limeade and chomping on the tastiest ice around.

The ice at Sonic is great, I have always loved it. It’s perfect for munching on it… not too hard like other places. You don’t have to break your teeth to chew on it.
We don’t have Sonics here in NY, which I don’t like, but everytime I drive to SC or KY to see family I make sure to stop at one and get an Oceanwater soda or slushie.

Darin, there really must be some psychic connection between us. Just this morning I commented to Maggy that I would love to have some Sonic Ice. If you’ve seen my blog I’ve suffered at the hands of a vicious bacillus … a stomach virus that had me expelling like Linda Blair… and I think my head turned around once too. The green tongue is fading. Anyhow… alls I’m doing to day is sipping water and gatorade…which would be made much more wonderful if it were in a sonic ice.
On a good day I get a cherry Sprite.
i live in oklahoma and have always been near a sonic. there is at least 2 in every part of town. i love love love sonic ice. it is just perfect. not too soft and not too hard. sent from heaven? maybe. probably. definitely.

If you like a cherry limeade try a Cranberry Limeade. WOW!!!
Oh man!! I love Sonic Ice and being Anemic I crave it even more. Ours here sells it by the bag. I try to stock up. It is like a $1 for a huge bag. I will often get a drink with extra ice and have a cup of just ice on the side. I love the Cherry Limeade or just the Sprite with cherry in it.
My Daughter has has Sonic ice for 5 years now and it got her thru all her teething.
The do make the commercial machine that make the ice, but they are thousands of dollars. If I was rich I would buy one. Luckily the store around the corner also does the same kind of ice in their machine so I am always down there once a week filling up cups.
I LOVE IT TOO!!!!! I am anemic and crave it just like Trish. I get at least 1 Rt 44 cup full a day, sometimes more. It costs $0.44 for the Rt 44. Got to have it!!!!!!!
Ohhhhhhhh! How I love and crave SONIC ice! I go through three 10 pound bags a week! I can’t leave the house without filling up a HUGE cup of ice to take with me. I also take to work with me enough ice for my work day. Does anyone else feel that if you drop a few pieces of ice on the floor while filling up your cup, that you have just wasted such a good thing? Aren’t the ice pieces that get stuck together the absolute BEST pieces to eat? Gosh, how I love Sonic ice!
I love sonic ice, I eat it all the time, I also go through 3 10 lb. bags a week! Crazy isn’t it, that something so little can be so good! 🙂

How many cups are in a bag of Sonic ice?
At my daughter’s wedding reception this week we are using Sonic Ice for the Italian sodas but since I don’t have a Sonic close to my home I was wondering if anyone knows how many cups are in a 10lb bag? I need to know so I can figure how much to get?!?!?!!
I get 3 to 4 bags a week of sonic ice.When I was working i would buy a bag before work and nefore the day was over so was the bag of ice. I am on a cup right now.

Absolutley love it!!! My friend’s mom & dad own 98 Sonic’s in and around the Austin, TX area. I once asked her what her parents did with the old ice machines (they still worked somewhat) that they replaced. I wanted one for my house!!! She said I didn’t want one because the were HUGE!!! Little does she know that I would of bought that thing in a heartbeat, given the chance!! Patiently waiting for the happy hour here in Texas to go get my afternoon Sonic ice fix!!
I love sonic ice so much that I thought maybe something was in it to make me addicted to it, like sodium or something, but I am anemic and so maybe that is why I crave it so much. Why is that?? I love it and it is so tasty and I always want a cup of ice! But why? sometimes my mouth gets so cold and sometimes my teeth hurt and yet… I want my ice. I buy about 2 bags a week from sonic and still wish I had more.
I used to have some problems with anemia as well and I ate ice constantly. I know our bodies crave iron when our blood count is low, but why we seem to associate iron with ice, I have no idea. But now I work for a restaurant equipment company and have learned all about the different types of ice, like Sonic’s nugget style ice that we all love so much (or sometimes it’s called pearl or chewblet depending on the manufacturer of the machines). And yes, it is true that the commercial ice machines that Sonic and other restaurants use are giant, but many manufacturers are making residential sized ice makers that produce the nugget style ice like these:
