Why did she leave? How long will she be gone? When you care about people you will end up at some point with a knot in your stomach. A hole in your heart. A place where it hurts. Where loving people and choice collide with such force that you won’t know what to do.

I have known her for several weeks. She told me her story. She shared. We talked about her struggles. I tried to encourage her. Her faith is fragile. She has seen darkness. Witnessed a lack of love. I can’t even imagine. You want to show her that you care. Support her in this journey. The last time I saw her she thanked me for being real. Someone dedicated who cares.

And so on Sunday when she wasn’t there and no one knew exactly where she had gone. They had some ideas but those weren’t good. It hurt. It is sad. You have that knot. Where do you even begin to search.

It made me wonder about Jesus. Maybe it is just me but at times since he is Lord of all, King of Kings and all of that, I struggle to see the heartbreak. I was thinking about it today.

I was thinking about the rich young man (Mark 10:17-31, Matthew 19:16-30, Luke 18:18-30). He came up to Jesus and wanted to know what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Mark records in Mark 10:21 that Jesus “looked at him and loved him.” I wonder if it hurt when this young man turned and left.

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:35-38

So today I am taking time to try and find a friend. Doing some leg work in hopes that it isn’t too bad. Would you please pray for her? Oh, and maybe today is the day you reach out to a friend who seems to have lost their way. Just to let them know you care. Someone who makes your heartbreak.

God bless.
